How it works
Step by step.
Choose how hard every PR is read: Glance, Standard or Deep.
- 01TriageA fast triage pass sorts every changed file by risk. Lockfiles, generated code and low-risk files go to the cheapest pass.
- 02FindA deep reasoning pass reads the risky hunks with their surrounding code. At Deep, four specialists add security, performance, tests and contracts.
- 03VerifyEach candidate must cite file and line, give a concrete failure and a minimal fix, or it is dropped. A second, independent check verifies each finding, and Deep adds an adjudication step.
- 04PostOne review: a few strong inline comments with one-click suggestions, a living summary, and one check run per head commit.
In detail
What it does, exactly.
- The depth is your choice per path, not a hidden setting that changes under you.
- A finding without file:line evidence and a failure scenario never posts.
- Re-reviews read only the new changes, and fixed threads resolve themselves.
- On GitHub
- Check run, inline comments, living summary, @forseti review deep
- In the dashboard
- Policies, per-repo depth, review timeline
Three live depths
Glance is a fast summary with a self-check and no line comments. Standard is triage, finder and verifier. Deep adds the specialists and the adjudicator. Molecular is in early access.
Policies by repo, branch and path
Set Deep for payments/** on main and Glance for docs/**. Rules live in the dashboard or in .forseti.yaml on the base branch, and the summary says which rule applied.
Severity in GitHub's words
Blocking, Should fix and Nit. A strictness profile decides which severities post inline; the rest go to the summary.
Oversized PRs get a proposed split
Past a threshold (800 reviewable lines or 25 files by default), Forseti proposes 2–4 ordered parts from the import graph. @forseti split posts it again.
